NCR Ottawa Art Gallery Tour & Workshop

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the NCR Ottawa Art Gallery Tour & Workshop on 12 MARCH 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 12 JANUARY 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Creative activities continue to grow in popularity amongst Soldier On members, as it is inclusive to all regardless of gender, age, or ability. Research shows that engaging in creative activities can benefit your well-being by increasing positive affect, reducing negative affect, improving self-esteem and self-compassion, strengthening resilience, developing character strengths, and enhancing social connections - all elements that directly support our members on their road to recovery.

 The Ottawa Art Gallery prioritizes providing workshops and programming for our community and they have curated a workshop that would support up to 25 Soldier On members in exploring their interests in artistic pursuits.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 25.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the NCR REGION who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
12 MARCH @ Ottawa Art Gallery
    • 9:50-10am arrivals
    • 10-10:10am getting settled in the studio
    • 10:15-11am - tour of exhibitions
    • 11am-12pm - back to the studio for a hands-on artistic workshop
    • 12-12:30pm clean up and depart
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 2.5 hours of light paced activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Applicants must be able to follow instructions. 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.

In order to be considered for selection, all serving members must also complete and submit a chain of command authorization form by the application deadline.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE PREVENTION:
Soldier On, PSP and CAF TG aim to provide a safe environment for all participants and staff. To ensure everyone’s safety, applicants understand that they should aim to adopt personal practices focused on communicable disease prevention such as health awareness, staying home when sick and regular hand cleaning to help prevent the spread.
